Employee Spotlight: Summer Orra, Catering & Events Assistant Manager

Q: What do you do at Sidon?

“I work with our clients through every step of the catering process. I start out by helping them build a menu that best fits their needs. Then, I coordinate with the team to make sure everything is on time and that every detail is accounted for. When the kitchen is finished preparing the order, I triple check everything and hand it off to the client or send it off for delivery!

Additionally, I coordinate with clients when they want to reserve space at the restaurant for an event. We are currently working on a banquet space called Sufra by Sidon that will allow us to host larger and more personalized events. I’m really excited to be helping out with this project!

I also help out with managing staff and HR-related functions when needed, such as providing training and orientation for new employees.”

Q: How long have you worked here?

“This September will mark five years of working at Sidon.”

Q: What’s your favorite part of your job?

“I love the challenge of balancing all the moving parts of my job. I also really enjoy meeting with clients and helping to personalize their experience, from building their menu to planning small details of their event.

I also love my coworkers! I met my best friends while working here and I feel so lucky to be able to work alongside them.”

Q: What is one of the most memorable moments you’ve had at work?

“The most memorable moment for me was in 2024 when I was promoted to this position. I started as a cashier, got promoted to a server and then ended up in this role. It’s been really rewarding to take on these extra responsibilities and I’m grateful to have had these opportunities for growth and development. There is room for growth at Sidon if you put in the effort!”

Q: What’s one piece of advice you would give a new employee joining the team?

“It may be overwhelming in the beginning, but have patience and everything will start to click. Don’t be afraid to mess up in the beginning; I believe the best way to improve is by learning from your mistakes. Always ask questions.”

Q: What’s your favorite way to spend your days off?

“On my days off, I’m usually either running errands or spending time with my friends and family. I also love to get a good workout in. I am a full-time student at the University of Toledo, so that occupies a lot of my time outside of work.”

Q: What inspires you?

“I’m always looking for ways to improve and grow in everything I do. I believe every situation can be a learning experience, and it’s so rewarding to look back and see how far you’ve come.”

Q: What is your favorite item on the menu?

“The Jibni Manakeesh from our bakery are so good! They remind me of my home in Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. My family and I moved back to the USA in 2020, and this was the first place I worked after we moved. Despite being on the other side of the world, I feel a strong connection to my cultural roots here.”

Q: Why should people dine at Sidon?

“We serve authentic meals and always strive for excellent customer service. Everyone here cares deeply about providing high quality food and a memorable experience for guests.”
